If a hard drive is clicking, grinding, repeatedly disconnecting, disappearing from the computer, becoming extremely slow, or showing signs of physical failure, avoid repeatedly powering it on or running recovery utilities. Continued attempts can sometimes worsen a failing storage device and reduce recovery chances.
PC Pitstop can evaluate and work with many software and logical recovery scenarios. Preservation comes before experimentation: the goal is to determine the safest recovery path rather than repeatedly experimenting on failing media.
Some failures require equipment or procedures that PC Pitstop does not currently perform in-house. Examples can include internal mechanical HDD failure, head damage, platter damage, seized components, open-drive procedures, advanced firmware recovery, NAND chip-off, SSD controller reconstruction, or specialized professional recovery equipment.
When that happens, we'll explain the options rather than experimenting with irreplaceable data. No device or customer data will be sent to a third party without customer approval.
